Newton’s Tree is searching for a Clinical Data Scientist to join our early stage startup with proven product market fit and exceptional growth prospects. Your role will be to support the planning, execution, and documentation of clinical evaluations, product validation activities, and safety governance processes for AI systems used in healthcare. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with a strong academic background in clinical data science or medical statistics and work experience in biomedical sciences, health informatics, or clinical research who is interested in healthcare AI.

You will work across customer success, product, sales, and marketing, ensuring clinical quality, accuracy, and consistency across all evaluation and governance activities.

Typical responsibilities and duties

Evaluation Support (Core Function)

- Prepare standardised clinical evaluation plans using established templates.

- Conduct literature reviews on vendor products, AI performance claims, and pathway impacts.

- Perform data quality checks, data preparation, and analytical tasks.

- Run evaluation analyses, including prediction distribution reviews and performance metrics.

- Support internal and external head-to-head AI tool assessments.

- Maintain and update evaluation outcome templates and documentation.

Stakeholder & Project Coordination

- Attend internal and customer evaluation check-ins, take notes, track actions, and update project dashboards.

- Coordinate with vendors during demos and summarise insights.

- Communicate progress to internal stakeholders.

Product Validation Support

- Perform structured validation tasks for AI models (e.g., LLM comparator, report emitter, binary classifiers).

- Document results systematically for product and regulatory teams.

Marketing & Research Support

- Assist with conference and abstract tracking.

- Prepare abstracts using templates and coordinate submissions.

- Draft clinical content (video scripts, summaries) for marketing.

- Conduct background research for grants and support the drafting process.

Sales & Pre-Sales Support

- Assist in the preparation of Statements of Work (SoWs) using standard templates.

- Create evaluation summaries for prospective customers.

Clinical Safety & Risk Governance (Desired)

- Conduct structured literature reviews and risk mapping for safety workshops.

- Contribute to clinical safety case documentation.

- Maintain structured safety evidence repositories.

- Support delivery of clinical safety training workshops.

Qualifications and skills

Essential

- Degree in biomedical sciences, health informatics, public health, or related field.

- Strong analytical/statistical skills and comfort with quantitative and medical data.

- Strong high-level programming skills for data analysis using Python, SQL, and related technologies.

- Clear writer with ability to summarise scientific information.

- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.

- Comfortable managing multiple work streams simultaneously.

- Ability to interact with clinicians, vendors, and cross-functional teams.

- Familiarity with healthcare AI products

- Experience in clinical research.

Desirable

- Experience in health technology assessment.

- Familiarity with regulatory pathways.

- Experience with quasi-experimental research methods.

- Understanding of DCB0129/DCB0160 or ISO 13485 concepts (training provided).

Compensation & benefits

- £70k-£90k per annum, depending on experience and skills

4. Final conversation (CEO) A values-led discussion about our mission, culture, and how this role contributes to improving the safe deployment of AI in healthcare.
