Who are we?
Newton’s Tree Ltd (company number: 14577546) processes (uses) data for different reasons, such as for responding to a question, running a course, or conducting healthcare research.
When we decide how and why data is collected, we are a “Controller”. This means we have important responsibilities.
One responsibility is to be transparent about the identifiable data we use relating to you, and that is the aim of this webpage.
Below are the different reasons we use data. In each section we’ve provided high level information, and then more detailed drop down sections, so you can find the level of information that is right for you.

Research in the UK
It is important to know that healthcare AI products work, and that they are equal to or better than existing healthcare options. The way you find that out is by generating evidence with research.
For most research we act as Processors which means we only follow the instructions of another organisation (who is the Controller). In those instances the Controller will explain how data relating to you is used.
However, in some instances we will be a Controller or Joint Controller.
When we are the Controller we partner with healthcare and research organisations to generate evidence, and we run these collaborations through the Evaluation Service. All research has the same aim: to find out if an algorithm can support or improve healthcare.
Data will only ever be seen by someone who is legally allowed to see it:
If it directly identifies you, then that can only be the Direct Care Team, someone with your explicit consent, or researchers with a special approval called “section 251”. More information can be found on “section 251” here.
- If it does not directly identify you then it can only be seen by approved researchers.
